Doctrinal Statement of Christian Fellowship Church

Below is our official doctrinal statement. We can also provide you with a summary statement and would be glad to answer your questions.

  1. We believe in the scripture of the Old and New Testaments as verbally inspired by God; inerrant in the original writings, and that they are of supreme and final authority in faith and life and should be interpreted in a dispensational manner.

We believe that the Bible reveals a divinely determined arrangement in the outworking of God’s sovereign rule.  These are dispensations or rules of life which define man’s responsibilities in successive ages, not ways of salvation, but stewardships or economies by which God directs man according to his purpose.

Three essentials of dispensationalism are:  1) The distinction between  Israel and the Church; 2) The consistent use of a single method of interpretation - a literal, grammatical, historical method; 3) The ultimate purpose of history is the Glory of God through the demonstration that He alone is Sovereign God.

    1.  As verified by Christ:  Matt. 5:17-18, 19:4; Mark 12:35-36; Luke 24:25-27.

  4. We believe that man was created in the image of God; that the man (Adam) sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also spiritual death which is separation from God; and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature and become sinners in thought, word and deed.
    1. In the image of God:  Gen. 1:26-27

    5. In thought and deed:  Matt. 15:19
    6. In word:  Matt. 12:34-37

  5. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice; and that all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood; and all the justified and redeemed, once saved are kept by God's power and are eternally secure in Christ.
    1. Christ's death:  1 Cor. 15:3-4; Rom 4:25, 5:8-9, 16, 18; Eph. 1:7; 1 Tim. 2:5-6

  6. We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into Heaven and in His present life there for us as High Priest and Advocate.
    1. Resurrection:  John 20:1-9, 27; Acts 2:32-33; 1 Cor. 15:1-8; Col. 1:18

  8. We believe that all who believe, at the moment of saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ are born again and indwelt by the Holy Spirit, baptized into the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit and become sons of God.
    1. Born again:  John 3:3-6; 1 Pet. 1:23
    2. As sons of God:  John 1:12-13; Gal. 4:6-7; 1 John 3:1-3

    5. Baptism by the Holy Spirit:  1 Cor. 12:12-13; Gal. 3:26-27; Rom. 6:2-5

  9. We believe that God is sovereign in the bestowal of all His gifts.  God, the Holy Spirit, bestows both foundational gifts (apostles, prophets, sign gifts such as miracles performed by human representatives, speaking in tongues and interpretation of tongues) which ceased when the New Testament Scriptures were completed and furtherance gifts (such as pastor/teachers, administration, helps, etc.) which continue for the purpose of the edification and instruction of the church. Rom. 12:3-8; 1 Cor. 12:4-11, 28-31; 2 Cor. 12:12; Eph. 2:19-21, 4:7-12; 1 Pet. 4:10-11

  10. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost.
    1. Resurrection:  1 Cor. 15 (entire chapter)
    2. Resurrection of the just:  Luke 14:14; John 5:28-29; 1 Thess. 4:13-18
    3. Resurrection of the unjust:  John 5:28-29; Rev. 20:11-15
    4. Conscious punishment of the lost:  Rev. 20:10, 21:8; Luke 16:19-25
    5. Everlasting blessedness of the saved:  Rev. 21:9-27

  11. We believe that Christians should conduct their lives, homes, activities and business in a righteous, godly and sober manner in order that they do not bring reproach on their Savior and Lord; and should have no allegiances with any secret or Christ dishonoring organization; nor should they marry unbelievers. Rom. 12:1-2; 2 Cor. 6:14-7:1; Eph. 4:1-3; Col. 3:12-17; Titus 2:11-14; 1 John 2:15-17; 1 Cor. 7:1-6, 39

  12. We believe that born again believers should be baptized in water and that all born again believers should partake in communion services to remember Christ's death till He comes again. Acts 8:12; Acts 10:48; Matt. 26:26-29; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:19, 20; 1 Cor. 11:23-34

  13. We believe members are members one with another and should so discipline their lives for the glory of God and the edification of one another. Rom. 12:4-5; 1 Cor. 6:1-8, 10:31; 12:12-13; Eph. 4:13-16, 25

  14. We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female.  Together these two distinct, complementary genders reflect the image and nature of God (Gen. 1:26-27). Therefore, we believe that one's biological sex is to be respected and not altered. Furthermore, we believe that the term "marriage" has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a lifelong, exclusive union (Gen. 2:18-25). We believe that the union of marriage is intended to be severed only by death and that divorce is only permissible in certain exceptions (Matt. 19:1-9).  Accordingly, we believe that God only permits sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other (Matt. 15:18-20; 1 Cor. 6:9-10,18, 7:2-5; Heb. 13:4). We acknowledge that we exist in a fallen world with contrary ideas about marriage, sexuality and conduct, and we respect the fact that all struggle with desires contrary to God's will.  However, God calls all to holiness and self-control and provides believers the empowerment to do so (1 Thes. 4:1-8; 1 Cor. 10:13). Conversely, any sexual activity outside of marriage is sinful and offensive to God.

We also believe that God offers forgiveness through Jesus Christ to all who confess and forsake their sin, while seeking forgiveness through Jesus Christ (Acts 3:19-21; Rom. 10:9-10; 1 Cor. 6:9-11; 1 John 1:9). Furthermore, we believe that every person should be shown compassion, love, respect, and dignity (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31). Therefore, we repudiate hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual, which are not in accord with Scripture.
